LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman stated recently that he wishes to offer his sympathies to the family and friends of a recently deceased contractor who was killed in a scaffolding accident. Moverman said that accidents involving scaffolding occur much too frequently and that these deaths and injuries put an unnecessary strain on the families and loved ones of those affected.
WITF reported that a 62-year-old man who had been working on scaffolding in Dover Township was killed recently when the scaffolding gave way. The man fell two stories to the ground and was later pronounced dead by the York County Coroner, the report said. Authorities said his cause of death was severe spinal and head injuries and the manner was ruled accidental.
These incidents tend to happen at an alarming rate. According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), there are about 2.3 million construction workers in the United States at any given time. Of those 2.3 million, almost 65 percent work on scaffolding. Statistics show that on average 60 deaths and 4,500 injuries occur while working on scaffolding every year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 72 percent of workers that were injured in scaffolding accidents, the accident was caused either by the planking or support giving way, the employee slipping, or being struck by a falling object.
“Most of these actions help to make our environment and the workplace safer so that others will not have to endure these painful losses,” said Moverman of the firm’s work.
Attorneys at Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, and Moverman P.C. have many years of experience in helping the injured decide how best to pursue legal compensation for their losses. In one case pursued by the firm, a woman was awarded $20 million after she was struck by a bus and lost an arm and vision in one of her eyes. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is currently looking to assist those individuals who have been injured due to another party’s negligence. Qualifying individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.
