LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently commented on an incident involving two men who fell from scaffolding in a construction accident. Moverman noted that these incidents happen frequently and that the numbers indicate that more needs to be done to increase worker safety.

The News & Advance reported that two men were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital after falling two stories from construction scaffolding. No information was given on their condition but the Bedford County Building Inspector and OSHA were investigating the incident, the report said.

According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), there are about 2.3 million construction workers in the United States at any given time. Of those 2.3 million, almost 65 percent work on scaffolding. Statistics show that on average 60 deaths and 4,500 injuries occur while working on scaffolding every year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 72 percent of workers that were injured in scaffolding accidents, the accident was caused either by the planking or support giving way, the employee slipping, or being struck by a falling object.

Attorneys at Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, and Moverman P.C. have many years of experience in helping the injured decide how best to pursue legal compensation for their losses. In one case pursued by the firm, a woman was awarded $20 million after she was struck by a bus and lost an arm and vision in one of her eyes. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is currently looking to assist those individuals who have been injured due to another party’s negligence. Qualifying individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.

“Most of these actions help to make our environment and the workplace safer so that others will not have to endure these painful losses,” said Moverman of the firm’s work.
