LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently commented on the outcome of a personal injury case involving an elderly woman who was hit by a merchandise cart while shopping. Moverman stated that these cases are paramount in assuring that victims of personal injury are compensated for their suffering and that responsible parties are held accountable.
National Law Review reported that in the case, Plent v. Anheuser-Busch, LLC, Los Angeles Superior Court / BC551113, an 86-year-old woman was shopping at an Albertson’s grocery store on May 14, 2013. An Anheuser-Busch, LLC employee struck the woman with a loaded merchandise cart from behind and she fell to the ground and was injured. The incident was captured on the store’s surveillance videotape system. While Anheuser-Busch admitted liability, the extent of the woman’s injuries was at issue at trial, the report said. The woman was awarded $886,000.
Personal injury victims come in many forms including those resulting from automobile accidents, construction accidents, slip and fall accidents, dog bites, medical malpractice, and more. The resulting injuries can cause the victim to suffer from lifelong pain, disfigurement, or may even result in death. The concept of “negligence” plays a key part in every personal injury lawsuit. Negligence is defined as a failure to use reasonable care when doing something – in other words, failing to do what an ordinary person would do to keep others around them safe.
