17-Year-Old Boy Suffers Painful Burns Following Alleged E-Cigarette Explosion As E-Cig Lawsuits Increase

LipsigLawyers.com reports on new updates in the story of a 17-year-old Albertville boy who was injured during an e-cigarette explosion in his classroom. It was noted that a classmate had brought the device to school when its battery overheated. The classmate pulled the device from his pocket, and it reportedly exploded in the teen’s face.

The update, released by AL.com, states that the young man was rushed via ambulance to a local hospital. His mother has indicated that he has more recovering to do, but he will recover. She stated “We have to see a burn specialist at Children’s (of Alabama). Hopefully, they will be able to help with the scarring.” The article notes that “ . . . burns extend from his face, just under his right ear, down his neck to his shoulder.”

The incident has been said to have prompted the school to re-evaluate the penalties given for possession of e-cigarette devices on campus. It was noted that the offense may be reclassified by the school district as a Class 3 offense beginning next academic year. A class 3 offense would require that students found with these devices face prompt suspension and potential expulsion.

Unfortunately, this boy is not the only young man to have recently reported suffering injuries following an e-cigarette explosion. A young 14-year-old boy from New York was recently visiting a mall kiosk which sold e-cigarettes when one of the devices allegedly exploded in his face. The boy is now reportedly blind in his left eye, and he and his father have decided to pursue legal action in the aftermath.
