Osprey, Florida - Bayside Pet Resort of Osprey Inc. has added experienced dog trainers and dog training classes to its new state of the art dog boarding, doggy day care, and grooming facilities, serving Gulf Coast residents and seasonal visitors between Sarasota and North Port, Florida.

Bayside Pet Resort owner, Robert Huff said: “Because we’ve learned that professional dog training through certified trainers helps build a special relationship between dogs and families, we’re dedicated to providing more high quality dog training and owner education options for Gulf Coast residents and seasonal visitors and their dogs. The new facility in Osprey provides a great opportunity to achieve that goal”.

Proper Dog Training Benefits The Community

When owners make the commitment to better understand, manage, and communicate with their pets, they build a foundation for a long, happy, healthy relationship with their dog. For example, many local restaurants happily seat both owner and their well-behaved dogs. This simple bonding activity enhances the love and friendship shared between owner and dog. This, and other social bonding experiences become possible for more dog owners through proper training.

A lack of training can result in problem dog temperament. Correcting unwanted behaviors such as inappropriate socialization with people and other dogs, reduces owner frustration, and avoids the worst case of an owner that has had enough, and drops their “problem dog” off at a shelter.

One of the best ways to build the bond between the dog and its human family is through classes taught by certified trainers, starting at puppyhood, and then adding training as the dog matures, or needs specialized training. The pure joy of fun events like meet ups with other dog owners, agility training, which is fun and exercise for the dog and owner, and many other social services improves the quality of life together. Yet, today, only an estimated 5% of approximately 80 million dogs nationwide have been to training classes.

Bayside’s Growing Commitment To Training

Bayside has ramped up its commitment to force-free, positive dog training by joining with two certified trainers, Sherry and Tom Altman, and expanding its class offerings at Bayside’s Osprey location. Sherry and Tom, along with Jeff Boyer, Bayside’s Sarasota – based trainer, offer over half a century of dog training experience, and underscores Bayside’s commitment to expert dog training for its clients.

Jeff Boyer

Nine-year agility instructor Jeff Boyer, has been with Bayside’s Sarasota location for over a year, building agility and behavior training programs. He actively competes in agility in numerous organizations. He and his dogs have been to the CPE, DOCNA, USDAA, and TDAA national championships multiple times. Jeff is also an agility judge for CPE, UKI, USDAA, and TDAA.

Jeff believes that learning and training should be fun for both members of the team, and strives for a teaching environment that is relaxed, supportive, and positive for all. Positive reinforcement of correct behaviors is paramount, and he encourages his students to adopt this philosophy.

Tom and Sherry Altman

Tom and Sherry Altman have provided families with pet training in classroom settings or private lessons for twenty-five years together. Tom is certified by the American Kennel Club to teach and certify puppies in the S.T.A.R. program and the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) course. Tom is a member of APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers). He has judged 4-H Dog Agility Competition at the Florida State Fair and has trained blind and deaf dogs. He graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. degree in Animal Science.

Sherry graduated from Lafayette Business College. Tom and Sherry teach Puppy Classes, Basic and Advanced Obedience, CGC, and Rally Obedience. Their hobbies are showing their dogs in Competitive Obedience, Rally Obedience and Agility.

People in the area can now take advantage of more conveniently scheduled six week classes in obedience, socialization, competition, and agility, for all puppy and dog ages and skill levels.

In the coming months, dog owners can benefit from the continuous growth of Bayside Pet Resort’s dog training services, classes, and owner education - all designed to build a positive, fun, and enjoyable dog and owner relationship.
