Hajjah Naziha Homeless Charity Helps The Homeless In Manchester

Homeless residents of Manchester have recently started receiving assistance from an organisation known as the Hajjah Naziha Charity, which strives to preserve the legacy left behind by Shaykh Nazim Adil through its many charity projects.

The Hajjah Naziha Charity bases its ideals and objectives regarding charity on the principles found in Islam. They state, “As well as helping others, charitable actions also benefit the donor by reminding them to think of their Muslim brothers and sisters during the holy month, and throughout the year. Many Muslims choose to pay Zakat during Ramadan, which is a ritual of making a donation based on your personal income, savings, and belongings once it goes past a certain threshold. Zakat al Fitr, however, does not depend on financial status and is a custom of providing a contribution towards a meal for someone who does not have enough to celebrate Eid by their own means.” This statement is also echoed on their website.

The organisation usually works with Organic Soul to feed the homeless in Manchester. Throughout the year, Organic Soul sets up a free food stall in Piccadilly Gardens every Friday to help feed members of the city’s homeless population, providing food and drink to the less fortunate. Hajjah Naziha, after whom the charity is named, is Ahlu ‘l-Bayti, a descendent of Islam’s prophet Muhammed through both her paternal and maternal lineages. She is the eldest child of Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil, founder of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order, and Hajjah Amina bint Ayesha, an Islamic scholar. She is married to Shaykh Muhammed Hisham Kabbani, and together they provide guidance to Muslims around the world. Born in Damascus in a highly religious household, she lived next door to renowned Shaykh `AbdAllah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghestani, who honoured her by allowing her to translate his Arabic lectures to Turkish.

She has, over the years, served as Chairwoman, Kamilat Muslim Women’s Organisation; Writer, The Muslim Magazine, a national quarterly read by policymakers on Capitol Hill; and Co-Chair, the International Islamic Unity Conference (Women’s Interests) in Washington, DC. She advises women on issues of Shari’ah and family life and helps them reconnect with their spiritual selves. She is well travelled, having visited the Middle East, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Australia, South America, the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States.

Hajjah Naziha has worked with Shaykh Hisham for over 20 years to honour Shaykh Nazim’s legacy by helping where they can in communities around the world. They have lent their aid to the victims of a number of disasters across international lines, including projects in Banda Aceh, Indonesia (tsunami relief); NWFP, Pakistan (earthquake relief); Kabul, Afghanistan (modern medical equipment and winter clothing); and Istanbul, Turkey (earthquake relief).

The Hajjah Naziha Charity has a number of programs and initiatives that they hope will change the communities they serve. They provide hot meals for people in need in Indonesia, Malaysia, Africa, and the UK, dig wells in rural areas around Africa to provide clean water, support orphans in third world countries, distribute educational materials in Indonesia and Africa, and hold free classes in all core academic subjects.
