Augusto Beato, CEO of digital marketing firm Portland SEO, said that the city should take advantage of its newfound role as a hub for tech talent in stimulating job growth.

The digital marketing expert noted that businesses had difficulty finding applicants and consequently slowed Oregon's job growth in the second half of last year.
He added that the city's rising tech talent is luring more tech companies to relocate. Portland's 4 percent lower cost of doing business compared to other major West Coast markets and its 21.2 percent millennial population and educated population are additional drivers for tech companies relocating to the city.
As an example, Beato pointed out that Five Talent Software's opening an office in Portland of to overcome a labor shortage in Bend.
Five Talent CEO Preston Callicott said has that the shortage in tech talent has limited the firm’s growth over the past year. The company now employs about two dozen people at its 1001 Emkay Drive office and is trying to hire another 12 to 15 people in Portland by March.
Callicott said that their company had leased space in the WeWork co-working space at Pioneer Place.
Meanwhile, Puppet Software Sr. Director of Talent Acquisition, Heather Flynn, added that more and more companies are moving their engineering hub to Portland to take advantage of the tech talent.
Teri Hockett, head of the Technology Association of Oregon’s Central Oregon office, noted that several local business and economic development organizations in Bend are contributing to a marketing campaign that will target tech talent in Portland, as well as in Seattle and the San Francisco Bay area.
In March last year, Forbes.COM said that Portland is one of five US cities that would soon become tech meccas. It is growing faster than Silicon Valley counterpart. From 2010 to 2013, Portland’s tech talent pool grew by almost 30 percent, outpacing Silicon Valley’s by nearly 10 percentage points.
