Great Falls, Virginia -

Backyard Bug Patrol, a pest control services company based in Great Falls, VA, wants to warn people, especially in Maryland and Virginia, about the recent increase in the West Nile virus disease. The West Nile virus is a type of flavivirus that recent studies have shown to be on the rise in some parts of the United States. Human infection with the West Nile virus is usually through bites from infected mosquitoes. Mosquitoes get infected with the West Nile virus when they feed on infected birds and then the virus resides in their bloodstream for a few days. The virus eventually reaches the salivary glands of the mosquitoes, which is how the virus gets injected into humans and other animals. More about this can be gleaned from https://backyardbugpatrol.com/mosquito-control/west-nile-virus-watch-out/.

According to the World Health Organization, “West Nile Virus (WNV) can cause neurological disease and death in people. WNV is commonly found in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and West Asia. WNV is maintained in nature in a cycle involving transmission between birds and mosquitoes. Humans, horses, and other mammals can be infected.”

A West Nile virus infection can be asymptomatic or it can result in fever or severe West Nile disease. Some of the minor symptoms of the WNV disease are fever, headaches or body aches, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, itchy rash on your stomach or back, and swollen lymph nodes (such as the glands in the neck). More severe symptoms can affect the central nervous system, resulting in meningitis or encephalitis. Such inflammation can be life-threatening if it is not treated promptly. Severe symptoms include intense, very painful headaches; high fever; stiff neck; confusion; muscle weakness or uncontrollable movements like tremors or convulsions; coma; and paralysis. The WNV disease can be fatal although this is rare. One in 150 people infected with WNV can get more severe symptoms and 10 percent of such cases are fatal.

Unfortunately, there is no vaccine for the West Nile virus for humans. What people can do is take preventative measures against getting infected with the virus. One effective way to do this is to decrease the possibility of transmission by eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, particularly in residential areas. Backyard Bug Patrol has a team of experts who have the knowledge, experience, and equipment needed to destroy mosquito breeding grounds, particularly in Great Falls Virginia, and the surrounding areas, including Springfield, Burke, and Alexandria.

Backyard Bug Patrol has been receiving highly positive reviews from clients as their overall rating on Google is 4.9 out of 5 stars.
