Santa Rosa, California -

Be the Change in Mental Health, a mental health clinic in Santa Rosa, California, is taking steps to serve the community at large, as outlined in their vision and mission. The mental health care clinic was launched in response to the growing need for mental health services in Northern California and is dedicated to providing high quality mental health services for the residents of Santa Rosa and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Marisha Chilcott of Be the Change in Mental Health says, "Whether personally affected by mental health issues or perhaps someone you love... it can feel devastating to the lives of the individuals, as well as the circle of family and friends that surround. We founded Be the Change in Mental Health with the hope to provide individuals that experience depression, anxiety or trauma access to innovative treatments such as Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). These two healing modalities paired in conjunction with one another, can provide outstanding results with great durability. Our clinic is one of a kind in the fact that we provide two completely different types of healing modalities that can be used individually or taken in concession with one another. This is what sets us apart in the growing field."

As Dr. Chilcott explains, the mental health clinic was founded to bring psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and other revolutionary treatment modalities for mental wellness to the public in a safe, medically-supervised, and legal manner. To that end, Be the Change in Mental Health employs a team of medical physicians and licensed therapists to deliver services designed to help those suffering from treatment-resistant mental health conditions, including depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and trauma.

The clinic’s objective is to create a scalable model that can be put to use in other clinics across the country, allowing access to these potentially life-saving therapies to millions of people. All treatments are conducted according to strict, scientifically-proven protocols by licensed professionals, according to the rules and regulations of the Department of Justice, the California Board of Medicine, and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). Patients are all examined by a medical doctor and cleared for the treatment and then evaluated by a licensed therapist to ensure that they can be treated with the appropriate treatment.

The psychedelic medication used is also restricted to legal drugs. While this means that MDMA or psilocybin are not used in treatment at the moment, Be the Change in Mental Health expects this to change soon. The mental health clinic expects that MDMA will receive FDA approval within the next two years, and their therapists have already been through the required MAPS training programs. Similarly, their Santa Rosa, CA clinic was purpose-built to meet the special needs of patients who will receive this type of medication.

There are legislative actions being taken to decriminalize psilocybin, and a variety of other potential medications are still being developed (and going through clinical trials). Once these medications are legalized, Be the Change in Mental Health looks to lead the charge in providing alternative treatment options that utilize these new medications as well.

Dr. Chilcott says, “All therapy needs to have a purpose; an endpoint to work towards and actual goals to achieve. Being in therapy for years and years on end without feeling like you have made any actual progress can be really frustrating and counterintuitive to treating mental illness. This is why we focus on providing a patient-centric, data driven treatment that measures patients’ progress in a quantifiable manner. This also allows us to adjust each patient’s program as needed to maximize the benefits patients’ stand to gain from our treatments. Across all the therapeutic services we offer, we believe in helping the body and the mind heal itself. All of our therapists will work with you to explore the root causes of your mental illness and help free you from those limiting beliefs that keep you stuck.”
