Michigan restraining order lawyer Paul J. Tafelski (https://www.michigandefenselaw.com/restraining-order-lawyer/) releases a new article explaining the different types of restraining orders in the state. The lawyer mentions that the large number of incidents, injuries, and deaths related to domestic violence has resulted in a rising amount of attention paid to these crimes over the past several decades.

“A restraining order, also known as a protective order, is a legal order issued by a court that requires an individual to refrain from certain actions or behaviors towards another person. These orders are often sought in cases of domestic violence, stalking, harassment, and other forms of abuse,” the Michigan restraining order lawyer says.

The lawyer explains that because of the rising number of crimes related to domestic violence, law enforcement has also paid more attention to these offenses. However, because of the added attention to domestic violence, there is also a rise in the number of false accusations as a means of revenge on the wrongly-accused party.

Attorney Paul J. Tafelski explains that one option available to those who complain of domestic violence is a restraining order called a personal protective order (PPO). PPOs are generally restraining order and it is an enforceable civil court order that restricts a person’s actions toward another person.

In the article attorney Tafelski discusses that a PPO is a restraining order that prevents a person from engaging in violence, threats of violence, or stalking another person. In Michigan, PPOs are given to address the actions of people who are in a domestic relationship. It does not matter whether the parties are married or not.

The criminal defense attorney says that there are two general types of PPOs in Michigan. These are the domestic PPO and the stalking PPO. Domestic PPO can be filed against a person who is in a domestic relationship with the accuser. This can be requested by the accuser if there is a history of violence or interference with personal freedom.

Furthermore, attorney Tafelski mentions that another type of PPO is the stalking PPO. This type of PPO can be requested if someone is accused of committing acts that make someone in a domestic relationship feel threatened, harassed, or frightened.

Lastly, attorney Paul J. Tafelski says that it is very important to seek the help of an experienced restraining order lawyer when it comes to matters involving PPOs. Having a skilled lawyer may be able to help the defendant navigate the complex nature of PPOs and guide them into not mistakenly violating the PPO.
