Lodon, UK – Finding the right house and people to become flatmates with is a challenge. In order to educate London residents about sharing a flat with other people, Locked-out Locksmiths (www.lockedout-locksmiths.co.uk) has just published a new blog post authored by Brendan Connolly entitled 'Locksmiths in London Can Secure a Flat for You and Your Flatmates’.

The article references an article on the Guardian website posted last November 14, 2014 revealing 'the growing trend of “flat-mating;” a social event designed to gather both house hunters and those with available lodging to solve the problem of finding the right living accommodations'.

“Living in a flat with other people means having enough keys to go around among flatmates,” states Connelly. “It would be terribly inconvenient to be short of keys in such a house, unable to open certain doors because the key is with another person. It also means making considerations to change the locks around the house once a flatmate decides to leave.”

The article relates that 'about 15,000 people a year now attend these find-a-flatshare functions, according to the website Spareroom.co.uk, and they are spreading fast. There are flat-mating nights at locations all over the capital, and now in Manchester and New York, too'.

“Each location is different,” says Matt Hutchinson, who set up Spareroom in 2004 and runs the events. “At the ones in the Docklands, people often don’t turn up until the end as they work late,” he says. “In west London, people were a lot more reserved and we had to herd them together.” And in New York? “People don’t tend to drink – it’s much harder to get the venues because you can’t guarantee the bar spend.”
