London, UK, NOV 9, 2015 – Having had enough of squatters, vermin, and growing piles of rubbish in their neighbourhood, the Bedford Borough Council has created a £3 million pound investment fund to help with the problem of vacant properties. In order to educate London residents who may be owners of these properties, Locked-out Locksmiths (www.lockedout-locksmiths.co.uk) has just published a new blog post authored by Brendan Connolly entitled 'Empty Nests Should Be Secured by a Professional Locksmith from London’.

The article references an article in the local newsletter Bedford Today reports on the council’s strategy to fill these empty homes to create a cleaner and safer borough.

“We’re working hard to reduce the number of empty homes in the borough,” states Cllr Colleen Atkins, Executive Member with responsibility for Operational Housing. “An empty property is a wasted property and has a negative impact on the environment and local community when it could be providing a much-needed home for a local person or family. This extra funding, along with the new dedicated Empty Homes Officer post, will speed up the process of Compulsory Purchase Orders. We’ll be able to bring more empty properties back into use more quickly.”

The article relates that the ‘£2.8 million fund would be put to good use by expediting Compulsory Purchase Orders or CPOs which would be sent to owners of vacant properties. With assistance from local real estate brokers, hopefully the properties would be either sold or occupied by the owner within a year’s time’.

“Often these homes are becoming shelter to undesirable elements who either vandalise the place or throw litter about,” stated Connolly further, “It is recommended that unoccupied houses—which are no longer expected to be lived in during the future—be  boarded up securely by an expert London locksmith like LockedOut London.”
