Bozeman, Mont. – As the statewide stay-at-home order is beginning to lift, the safety and welfare of workers and customers in the plumbing, HVAC and construction industries remain at high-risk. The leading plumbing company in Bozeman MT has recently advised others in their industry on safety measures to include on service calls to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of their staff and customers. Recently, Williams Plumbing & Civil Construction shared on their Blog a list of precautions they’ve enforced in their company adapted from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). Williams has since offered industry-specific “best practices” and helpful resources to follow over the next several weeks and months and are advising other members of their community to do the same.

Health organizations around the world are continuing to advise citizens to limit time outside of the home and to wear face masks when they do venture out. Williams advises as an additional measure to protect service technicians from infection is by pre-screening customers, prior to booking a job. These questions include but may not be limited to: 1.  Have they traveled to an area with known local or international spread of COVID-19 in the past 14 days? 2.  Have they, or anyone in their residence, come into close contact (within 6 feet) with someone who has a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 14 days? 3.  Have they experienced a fever (greater than 100.4 F or 38.0 C) OR symptoms of lower respiratory illness such as cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing in the past 14 days?

If the customer should answer “Yes” to any of these questions, they advise that service be denied or delayed for a minimum of two weeks — as determined by the service technician.

In addition to protecting service technicians from infection, the Bozeman, MT civil construction company recommends daily updates from technicians about the status of their health. These updates are to ensure that team members are not spreading the virus to each other or customers. If a technician should report any of the symptoms for COVID19 such as fever, coughing or shortness of breath, that technician should stay or go home immediately and contact their doctor. Until a test can confirm there is no presence of the virus, the individual should quarantine for 14 days or until otherwise advised by their physician.

Technicians that are still actively working on service calls are advised to be properly outfitted with safety equipment. Recommended equipment includes respirators, bodysuits, disinfecting wipes and sanitizer. Furthermore, Williams reminds us that service trucks and vans should not be overlooked. It is recommended that the exterior doors and interiors of vehicles should be sanitized often. They advise the use of UV lights as it is a standard cleaning method for healthcare professionals and is equally effective for removing germs. If technicians also use tablets or other touchscreen devices for signatures or invoices, those should be sanitized even more often.

Throughout this crisis, Williams Plumbing and Civil Construction remains committed to the safety and service of their customers and employees and are still open for business.
