Pickens County, Ala. – A leading Pickens bail bond business, Alabama Bail Bonds, is closely observing the new Alabama legislation that will majorly reduce the number of inmates who are eligible for bail bonds. This was first thought of earlier in 2020 to increase the effort to reduce the number of violent offenders who are able to be released from jail.
This law is the Aniah’s Law which is named after an Alabama college student, Aniah Blanchard, was shot and abducted by an inmate who was released on bail. Alabama Bail Bonds investigated the developments of this legislation around late March. These new developments asked for additional freedom to judges state-wide to use their own discretions when choosing who is eligible to be out on bail.
Once this bill gets passed, Pickens bail bond agents will definitely be able to tell the difference. This new bill will definitely increase the amount of time that an inmate will be able to be released from jail because now the prosecutors are able to challenge an inmate’s right to be eligible for bail. A judge can also deny bail to those who are in jail for things such as rape, kidnapping, arson, assault, violent crimes and robbery. These were not crimes that were bail-deny eligible, but now with the act they are.
According to Mike Cason, writer for AL.com, said, “The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the legislation. It’s a two-bill package, and one of the bills is a constitutional amendment that would require voter approval.” Since the bill has been approved in committee, it will soon move the entire Senate for approval. The House passed the legislation already a few weeks ago.
