Reform, Ala. – The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) manages the nationwide correctional system and has been planning for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) since January of 2020. The first phase of the plan was to mitigate transmission, figure out where the disease was occurring and the description of the virus’ symptoms. The BOP has been concurring with the Department of Corrections and the Department of Justice to come together with a plan for this virus outbreak within prisons which also changes bail bonds in Reform, AL.

Social visitation for current inmates has been suspended for at least 30 days. At the end of the 30 days, the suspension will then be reevaluated. Social ties will not be ended between inmates, as they are now allowed an additional 200 minutes monthly on the telephone and video visit systems within the prison. Access to the legal counsels remains to be something that is a requirement, but the BOP is mitigating the risks of exposures due to external visitors. Legal visits will also be suspended for at least 30 days, but confidential legal calls will be permitted to maintain access to legal counsel for inmates. Attorneys must contact the individual institution if trying to access in-person visitation with inmates.

All inmate facility transfers will also be suspended at least 30 days. Forensic studies, mental or medical health treatments, and some other exceptions may still be made but on a case by case basis. But other than these, inmates will remain put as well as new inmates will be accepted still.

Staff members must be screened at their arrival and departures of the institutions. They must self-report if they feel under the weather as well as receive temperature checks for the next 30 days where the process will then be re-evaluated.
