Birmingham, Ala. – The federal government has had a long-standing goal to improve the current criminal justice system in various aspects, but with improvement often comes change. The Jefferson County bail bond agents of Alabama Bail Bonds are anticipating enhanced public safety services to soon affect the residents of their own communities in the state of Alabama.
Recently, U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town confirmed that nine north Alabama counties (Calhoun, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Madison, St. Clair, and Tuscaloosa) will receive funding to aid in public safety services through various Department of Justice grants totaling $6.84 million dollars. The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the 20 grants at the close of the 2019 Fiscal Year. The grants support public safety and crime-fighting initiatives throughout the Northern District of Alabama.
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is receiving funding through the Office of Justice of Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance and BJA’s National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grant program. Under the SAKI grant program, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office will receive $876,804 to support the Department’s criminal justice priorities of reducing violent crime and supporting law enforcement officers and prosecutors.
Depending on how quickly new practices are put into motion, a bail bondsman in Birmingham, as well as residents of Alabama, could be seeing the results of these Department of Justice grants as soon as the next fiscal year. With a possible increase in arrests or detainments on the horizon, knowing where to turn is an important step in preserving your rights as a defendant. With more than 11 years in the Tuscaloosa County bail bond industry, Alabama Bail Bonds has proven to handle cases with expert accuracy and has garnered an impressive reputation within the community.
