Utah Disaster Specialists has announced that they provide flooded basement cleanup for homes and businesses in Layton, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo, Park City and Lehi, Utah and surrounding areas.

Daryl Olsen, a representative for the company says, “Basement flooding is a common issue and it can be one of the important areas to clean up after flooding has occurred. Flooding could be caused by natural instances such as heavy rain and storms or by flooding within the structure from busted water pipes or other issues.”

The company states that cleaning up after flooding is essential in order to avoid further damage to the structure as well as the growth of mold. Mold thrives in water prone areas, an issue that the company says needs to be addressed and not ignored.

“Often when flooding occurs in the basement, home or business owners attempt to remove the water and clean the area up themselves,” says Olsen. “Unfortunately, when there is a lot of water present, this is often a near impossible task. Certain equipment and experience is needed in order to ensure that all of the moisture is removed and that the structure suffers as little damage as possible.”

Olsen says that for major flooding, more than just an inch or two of water, professional services are often needed. He says that removing all water can be impossible for those who are not experienced in these tasks, and that removing or preventing damage to wood, sheetrock or other materials requires a professional touch.

Olsen adds that once the flooding has been stopped, a professional should be called. Professional flood damage cleanup crews will have the required equipment to completely remove all water and moisture from the area, as well as the knowledge needed to repair or prevent damage to the room.

“Water removal sometimes starts with pumping out water if the water was deep enough,” says Olsen. “Not too many homeowners own their own pumps or water extraction equipment to remove the water from a flooded basement.”

Olsen says that professional cleanup companies will have pumps, extraction equipment as well as other drying equipment that is needed to completely dry out the area. Once the standing water is removed, the area must be inspected to determine any damage and the structure needs to be dried out. Materials that can be saved need to be dried in a timely manner to avoid mold and bacteria growth. Left to dry on its own, it may take a long time to dry. Olsen states that because the basement often contains structural elements of the home or business, it is imperative that owners call on a professional for cleanup, in order to ensure that the structure is sound once the cleanup has been completed.

Not properly removing moisture and water could also lead to the growth of mold, which can be hazardous, particularly to those who have certain breathing issues. Olsen states that a professional company will have the knowledge needed to check the area to ensure that no mold can begin to grow.

High powered fans and other equipment will be needed in order to dry out the area completely so that mold growth is inhibited. Olsen adds that Utah Disaster Specialists has the equipment needed to full dry out a flooded basement and the knowledge required to check the area to ensure that all damages are dealt with before they can worsen.

Utah Disaster Specialists also provides a number of other services including the cleanup of fire and smoke damage and air duct cleaning. The company has been in business for a number of years and states that all of their professionals have the experience needed to ensure a thorough job.
