London, UK - The Home Office announced in July 2015 a new requirement for Tier 1 (Investor) and Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa applicants. It is now necessary to provide an overseas criminal record certificate in support of the visa application. This new requirement, begun on September 1, 2015, is required of anyone applying for a Tier 1 (Investor) or Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa. Applicants must produce a criminal record certificate from every country they will have lived in continuously for a 12 month period or more over the last decade. In keeping with their mission to educate travellers on the VISA process, VisaCompare (www.visacompare.com) has just published a new blog post entitled 'UK Visa Update for Investors'.

The article discusses how the law, still in the first phase of implementation, also requires certificates from ‘the adult dependents of the applicants who are also to meet this requirement. Those applying for an extension or applying to switch in-country need not provide a certificate’.

According to the article, the initial ‘introduction phase includes a limited initial number of participants in order to gauge how well the program will work as it expands’.

According to a Telegraph article, ‘the scheme is designed to prevent foreign criminals reaching British soil and will initially apply to applicants in the “investor” and “entrepreneur” visa routes. It is due to be extended to other visa types beginning from 2016. However, the checks will not apply to anyone from within the European Union who enjoys “free movement” rights to come to Britain’.

VisaCompare has a mission to provide help with the Visa application process and acquisition specifically.
