The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project, operating from Manhattan Beach, CA, is proud to announce that they were a part of the inaugural cancer survivorship symposium and that it has been a success. The symposium is the brainchild of the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American College of Family Physicians. The event took place in San Francisco between January 15 and 16, 2016. Details about the event are available at http://survivorsym.org.

There are currently 14 million cancer survivors in the United States and the number is expected to grow to 18 million within the next decade. With a shortage of oncologists in the US, new and more effective cancer survivor plans are needed.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Project Founder and President Robert Warren Hess, himself a prostate cancer survivor, was selected by ASCO to be a cancer advocate at the inaugural conference.

Robert Hess himself says: "One consistent theme throughout the two days of the conference was the importance of lifestyle change - exercise and nutrition - in helping cancer survivors recover from their treatment and create the physical and mental conditioning they need for their cancer journeys."

Because of this drive for lifestyle change, the organization started to work on new ideas to push this agenda forward. "The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project (PCAP) began working on exercise and nutrition education with the founding of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo bicycle ride in Harrisonburg, Virginia," he adds. "And we have an ongoing bicycling challenge where people can ride around the world a few miles at a time, and earn a special bicycling jersey." Full details are available at http://www.alpineloopgranfondo.com.

The Around the World Cycling challenge is now live, and people - survivors and supporters alike - can join through http://bit.ly/AroundtheWorldtoStopCancer

The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charity based in Manhattan Beach, California. President and Founder Robert Warren Hess is a prostate cancer survivor and in 2015 was chosen by Amgen Corporation as one of their National Cancer Champions for his work with prostate cancer.
