Anaheim, Orange County - To help patients suffering from a substance use disorder find facilities that deliver quality treatment and care, Anthem Blue Cross has recognized Lighthouse Treatment Center as one of the most recent facilities to receive the Blue Distinction® Center for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery (BDC Substance Use Treatment and Recovery) designation – a designation under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated facilities that show a commitment to delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the community and leading accreditation and quality organizations.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 188 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose, which highlights the seriousness of the opioid epidemic and how critical it is for patients to receive comprehensive, meaningful care.[1] The BDC Substance Use Treatment and Recovery program requires designated facilities to deliver coordinated multidisciplinary care to patients and provide timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care in all phases of treatment. Designated facilities must also offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) – the evidence-based recommended treatment for opioid addiction that includes a medication component and behavioral therapy.
The Lighthouse Treatment Center and its affiliated companies have provided quality substance abuse treatment services since 1999. Atttaining the Blue Distinction designation from Anthem Blue Cross because reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment the Lighthouse Treatment Center has to serving the addiction population. More than 22,000 clients have been treated since 1999 and the treatment center continues to strive to deliver a high quality of care.
“The Blue Distinction program is another example of our ongoing commitment to ensuring our members have access to high-quality specialty care and treatments, delivered safely and effectively though our in-network providers,” said Dr. John Yao, senior chief medical officer at Anthem Blue Cross. “We congratulate Lighthouse Treatment Center on its designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery.”
Since 2006, the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program has helped patients find quality specialty care in the areas of bariatric surgery, cancer care, cardiac care, cellular immunotherapy, fertility care, gene therapy, knee and hip replacements, maternity care, spine surgery, substance use treatment and recovery, and transplants, while encouraging health care professionals to improve the care they deliver. Research for many programs shows that, compared to other providers, those designated as Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients.
