Sovereign Education Media, a book publisher in Chicago, IL, has recently released an update of the first volume of the 7 Weeks to a Better American Accent for Native Mandarin Speakers training course. The course was initially written by the author Tracey Ingram, as a training tool for her Chinese students at the former Institute of Accent Modification. The course has been designed to support Mandarin Chinese speakers who have previously studied a much formalized version of English but who, when they arrive to the United States, realize that this is not how Americans speak. Chinese speakers who find themselves in this situation are encouraged to visit http://www.sovereignedmedia.com regularly to remain up to date.

"The challenges that the Mandarin speaking student has when speaking English are numerous," says Stacey Towson from Sovereign Education Media. "I have heard this numerous times from many students: Chinese students have studied English for years but spent very little time practicing how to speak English. American English is very fluid, spoken quickly, and has a lot of idioms. Having a conversational language partner can greatly help the English pronunciation of native Chinese students."

The first volume of this series consists of a 70 page workbook and audio files, which are both sold separately. The audio can be ordered from http://bit.ly/1LouhMU.  Students will not be able to learn the American accent simply by reading the book. It is vital that they actually make time to read and listen to the audio. The program is divided into 7 sections and at the end of the 7 weeks, students would have completed the series. Daily practice is highly encouraged as well as having an American English language partner or hiring an American English Accent coach.

The workbook and audio compliment the training and have identified the typical sounds that the Mandarin speaker finds challenging. The author begins the program by teaching how sounds are made prior to learning how to produce them.  This process helps the student to be able to advance through the program a lot faster. In weeks 2 and 3 you'll learn how to sharpen your listening skills to enhance speech production.  Once you have mastered speech production, you will start improving your speaking rate. There are many practice sessions to help them master intonation and the rhythm and flow of the American English language.

"The benefits of this program are vast," adds Stacey Towson. "They include improved job opportunities, reduced levels of frustration, and improved interactions in business and personal life, increased work productivity, and increased confidence in speaking."

The book is also available through Amazon on,  http://amzn.to/21bfwb  where it is already receiving positive reviews.
