Dr. Mark Hickman MD, FACS, based in New Braunfels, Texas, is pleased to offer all-inclusive vasectomy reversal procedures from his medical center for an affordable price. His patients come from all over Texas as well as Louisiana, Oklahoma and the rest of the USA.

Dr. Hickman offers two all-inclusive, affordable options for a vasectomy reversal. The microsurgical vasectomy reversal option costs $3,300 and includes local anesthesia and an oral sedative. The second option costs $4,200, with the procedure being performed under IV sedation administered by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist. Both microsurgical options are all-inclusive with no hidden fees and with a high success rate. When performing a microsurgical vasectomy reversal under local anesthesia, the procedure is carried out through small incisions made on each side of the scrotal skin. The two ends of the vas deferens are found and separated from the surrounding scar tissue and a microsurgical repair of the vas deferens is carried out using a Zeiss OPMI-MDM operating microscope. The procedure utilizes a 10-0 nylon suture, which is much finer than a human’s hair, with the repair requiring approximately 10-15 stitches. The aim of these vasectomy reversals is to create direct and careful alignment of the lumen of the two ends of the vas, with a watertight closure.

After the completion of the procedure, a sample of fluid from the testicular end of the vas deferens is placed on a glass slide and examined under a laboratory microscope to check for the presence of sperm. The testicle continues to produce sperm after a vasectomy, so the fluid from the vas deferens could still contain sperm. There are three possible outcomes which may happen, based on the examining of the fluid sample.

The first and the most ideal situation is that the fluid will contain whole sperm. The second (and most common possibility) is that the fluid is thin and contains only parts of sperm, or no whole sperm. The third possible finding is that the fluid will be thick and pasty, containing no sperm. This situation is usually caused by an obstruction called an epididymal blowout, meaning that the vas is obstructed at two levels. — at the vasectomy site and by the rupture of the tube in the epididymis. This calls for an additional procedure called a vasoepididymostomy to be performed, in addition to the vasovasostomy. This cannot be determined by the age of the vasectomy but only through examination of the semen. Both sites must be repaired for a successful outcome, and these procedures can be done simultaneously. The technique for the vasoepididymostomy is a microscopic invagination of the epididymal tube into the lumen of the vas deferens using 10-0 nylon sutures. If both repairs must be done, vasectomy reversal surgerons will carry out the additional procedure for no additional cost.

A recent Google review of Dr. Hickman’s services praises his expertise and the affordability of the procedure. Sheilah Bradley states that, “Dr. Hickman performed my husband's vasectomy reversal in March of 2020, 10 years after his vasectomy, and we conceived a few months later. My daughter arrived a little early, but our original due date was exactly one year after surgery. Dr. Hickman and his staff were all very knowledgeable and friendly and the procedure itself was very affordable. We're obviously thrilled with the outcome!”. Dr. Hickman’s dedication to his patients is evident in many other positive reviews as well. His consideration of his patients is such that out-of-town patients can even ask the doctor’s office to arrange special accommodations for the duration of their procedure and recovery.
