Senior Care Center is raising awareness of the steps that are being taken in Buena Park, a city in northwestern Orange County, to combat the spread of COVID-19 amongst its senior citizens.

Senior Care Center is an organization that provides assistance to families looking for long-term elder care homes for their loved ones. Readers can find out more about the organization by heading over to its Google My Business listing at https://goo.gl/maps/aoZMhBoRgjWwdGTPA.

Adults above the age of 60 are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus. The elderly citizens of Buena Park are battling the spread of the virus effectively thanks to the efforts of the Buena Park Senior Activity Center and the Buena Park city administration.

The Buena Park Senior Activity Center is hosting an outdoor Senior Fitness Facility, computer lab, and support groups by appointment. Senior classes including exercise, line dancing, pickleball, Car Bingo, and fitness circuit are currently ongoing. However, they require advanced registration. The center also has Zoom activities available online or by phone. These activities include Zoom Bingo, Hula & Ukulele classes, and more. Those who are interested in the activity classes can call (714) 236-3870 for more details. Complete details about all of the activities can be found in its monthly newsletter, The Key.

The center has converted the Senior Lunch Café Program, provided by Meals on Wheels Orange County, to a frozen meal grab-and-go via drive-thru. The program happens every Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The center also says that the Senior Grocery Program, provided by Second Harvest OC, will be at 10:15 AM every Thursday via a drive-thru process. The center requests participants to follow the arrows and staff and to not exit their vehicle. Walk-ups can be accommodated but the program can only run while supplies last. Readers can call (714) 236-3870 for more information or to enroll in the aforementioned programs.

Those seniors who are in the need of additional Buena Park senior resources or are in need of talking to someone about their feelings or one of life's challenges can leave a message for Senior Outreach Worker LCSW Rosemary Nielsen at (714) 236-3876; she is in the office on Wednesday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

The Buena Park Senior Activity Center talks about its mission to serve the senior citizens of Buena Park by saying, “Our mission is to provide the mature adult population in the community with a diverse offering of recreational, educational, social, and human service programs in environments which promote a spirit of dignity and limitless potential for later life enrichment. Our goals are to enhance the quality of life, nurture talents and skills, foster social interaction, and support independence and self-determination.”

There have been 252,804 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Orange County so far. Among those receiving 2-Dose vaccines such as the one from Pfizer and Moderna, 595,450 people have received one dose whereas 687,552 people have been fully vaccinated. Among those receiving 1-Dose vaccines such as the one from Johnson & Johnson, 65,611 people have been fully vaccinated.
