Dallas ISD Spanish Teacher Receives International Recognition

Dallas ISD Spanish teacher Akash Patel has received international recognition, earning a place within the International Literacy Association (ILA) 2021 30 Under 30 list. Akash Patel has worked hard to promote global citizenship in schools, and his efforts have earned him global fame.

A Patch article published on January 13th commented on the news, saying: “Akash Patel, the founder at Happy World Foundation Inc. and Spanish teacher at Ignite Middle School, is one of 30 literacy leaders named to the International Literacy Association’s (ILA) 2021 30 Under 30 list. The global list celebrates rising innovators, disruptors, and visionaries in the literacy field.”

International Literacy Association (ILA) promotes global citizenship education, according to an NBC 5 DFW article from January 20th. This article reads, “The organization ‘promotes global citizenship education, citizen-to-citizen diplomacy, and cross-cultural understanding in schools and communities worldwide’ according to the website. ‘Happy World Foundation’ connects students from all over the US to children in more than 150 countries. ‘They engage in conversation with that person to learn more about culture, country, traditions, economy, a powerful way of helping children dispel stereotypes and treat everyone the same,’ said DISD teacher, Akash Patel. Literacy teachers from all over the world competed for the recognition.”
