Austin Vision Therapy Center, an eye care clinic based in Austin, Texas, has revealed that they have recently published a blog post on amblyopia and its treatment. Amblyopia is a visual disorder that is commonly known as “lazy eye.” The article points out that vision therapy can help with lazy eye. Specifically, vision therapy activities in pediatric and adult eye care clinics may be able to stimulate the amblyopic eye and enhance its connection to the brain.

Dr. Denise Smith, founder and clinical director of Austin Vision Therapy Center, says, “We offer various vision therapy activities that can help with amblyopia. Austin Vision Therapy Center is an outstanding choice if you are looking for the most practical vision therapy in Austin. Focusing on excellence, we provide our patients with comprehensive vision care that consistently exceeds expectations. When it comes to serving our patients, our philosophy is "whatever it takes," and that is the kind of service we provide at our vision center.”

Another vision therapy that they can provide for amblyopia is direct patching with eye exercises. A patch is positioned over the “normal” eye to force the brain the use the amblyopic eye. And for bilateral amblyopia, the patch can be alternated so both eyes get their turn in being stimulated. Virtual reality may also be a possible treatment for amblyopia because it can be use to target the amblyopic eye and work in a similar way to direct patching with detailed activities, including teaching the eyes to work together. This is a bit complex because the eyes need to work as a team to be able to orient through space and perceive depth. Eye teaming can be accomplished more effectively through the improvement of amblyopic symptoms.

The vision therapy offered at the Austin vision center is considered to be the most effective solution for all eye disorders. By using several visual aid tools, rehabilitation, and therapeutic sessions, their program addresses the cause of the eye problem rather than the symptoms. Once this cause has been eliminated, the problem will automatically be resolved.

Austin Vision Therapy Center may also help patients whose head or brain has been affected by a blow and those who suffered a stroke or neurological dysfunction that resulted in brain injury. This injury may have caused the patient to have difficulties with vision. Their vision may be blurred or double and the eyes may be sensitive to light and ache frequently. They may be able to help with this condition by utilizing neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy or phototherapy programs to enhance vision. Meanwhile, while eye surgery may not always enhance vision, it may be recommended for eyes that are apparently crossed or turned.

Vision therapy may also help with learning problems in children. Some children may have difficulties in focusing and adjusting for nearby objects after seeing an object located at a farther distance. Their eyes will not be able to process information and their learning is negatively affected. Austin Vision Therapy Center may also be able to help these children in the development of the skills that are needed to excel both in the classroom and the workplace.

There are also common disorders that are usually confused with visual problems. These include ADD, dyslexia, and ADHD. The symptoms may be similar but the causes are not. The vision experts can appropriately diagnose such problems and recommend a proper treatment.

Strabismus or crossed eyes may also be treated at the Austin vision center. Their doctors can perform visual rehabilitation that can address the root cause of crossed eyes. They can offer non-invasive treatment that can correct both the eye muscles and the brain’s control of these muscles. The therapy is designed to train the brain to process what both eyes see simultaneously.
