Carmel, IN Company Starts Manufacturing Easy to Load Kayak Carriers

Kayaking seems to be one of the fastest growing recreational activities across the nation. Those who use kayaks claim there is something relaxing and therapeutic when it comes to paddling around on open water. There is one inherent problem for those that are avid kayakers’ though. That’s getting their kayak from point A to point B without having loading and unloading issues. A company out of Carmel, Indiana thinks they have come up with a solution to that problem in the form of simple to use kayak carriers.

The company has been encouraged by their new kayak carrier design because of all the hits that they have received on the videos they have posted on YouTube. Ira Mercurio, the company founder and spokesman, claims these informational videos are one of the best ways to learn more about this relatively new kayak transporting device.

The demonstration videos are done in real time and show exactly how the carriers will help someone load their kayaks onto a vehicle. Ira noted that many YouTube viewers are now watching the company’s kayak carrier demonstration videos for a longer period of time too. He hopes that’s a sign that interest in his unique kayak carrier design is piquing.

Ira said that he came up with the original idea for these easy to load kayak carriers through his own trials and tribulations when transporting his kayak. He says, “I found that loading and unloading my kayak was taking away from the enjoyment I got when using it. Eventually, I got this idea in my head for a carrier design of my own and I ran with it. Soon I had a prototype that allowed me to be able to secure my kayak without crawling up on top of my truck. After several modifications, my helpers and I finally had the lightweight and simple to use kayak carrier version that we wanted.”

The company’s name and the product are both now called ‘EZ Rec-Rack’. Ira claims their design is unique because their carriers are lightweight, easy to install and hold any kayak that’s placed on them firmly as a vehicle travels along. It’s a roof-mounted kayak carrying system with a twist, he states.

That ‘twist’ is a stretcher or ladder looking component attached to the roof-mounted carrier frame. This stretcher looking device actually slides down to the ground when it’s extended and helps stabilize the kayak when loading it. It also helps distribute a kayaks weight evenly when moving the kayak back to the top of the vehicle. Ira mentioned that one of the main design points they focused on with the EZ Rec-Rack kayak carrier was to make it so a single person could load their kayak without any assistance.

The company states that its EZ Rec-Rack kayak carrier will appeal to those who use their kayaks in salt water too. Ira elaborated on this more, “The fact that our kayak carrier is made mostly of powder-coated aluminum helps keep its weight down and gives it superior salt corrosion resistance. Most every part on our kayak carriers is made using components and materials that are naturally corrosion resistant.” He went on to add, “The EZ Rec-Rack kayak carrier can be used to hold some larger size kayaks too. All of the securing straps on the system can be adjusted to fit different size vehicles and kayaks.”

Mercurio and his team that designed the EZ Rec-Rack kayak carrier were rewarded for their innovation with a US Patent. That means they will now have the production rights to this new style kayak carrier for many years to come.
