MANHATTAN BEACH, CALIFORINIA — Manhattan Beach-based Cancer Journeys Foundation today announced that Venice, California-based Weavy became a major sponsor for the inaugural 2018 Tour de USA® for Prostate Cancer. The event was a World Record attempt for the longest charity road rally, traveling through 9 western states and driving 5,386 miles in support of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Cancer Journeys Foundation CEO Robert Hess and CancerAid CEO Dr. Nik Pooviah

Manhattan Beach resident and Cancer Journeys Foundation President Robert Hess created the Tour de USA® road rally to dramatically reduce America’s annual prostate cancer death toll.

Said Hess, “Prostate cancer claims the lives of almost 28,000 American men every year because these men don’t know they have the disease in time for effective treatment. The mission of the 2018 Tour de USA® is to make certain men know about the prostate cancer risk (one in six men will have the disease) and about the Foundation’s simple prostate cancer risk awareness tool, ProstateTracker.org.”

The Tour de USA® began on August 26, 2018 at the offices of CancerAid in Beverly Hills and ended back in Los Angeles, after 23 days and 5,386 miles on the road. “We carried a Spot Gen3 GPS tracker from GlobalStar that let people all across the US follow us in real time on the Internet. We used that data to apply for our world record,” according to Hess.

“We’re especially excited to have Weavy as a Sponsor,” said Hess. “The Internet is a key tool to beating prostate cancer by allowing us to reach more men and their families and hosting our prostate cancer early detection system. Weavy is a leading Internet technology company and Weavy CEO Rickard Hansson is right in the age demographic we need to reach. What a perfect fit with our mission! Supporting our prostate cancer awareness mission says a lot about Weavy’s social commitment.”
