Chevrolet Dealer In Connecticut Is The Oldest Continuously Ran Business In The Area

O'Neill's Chevrolet Buick, a car dealership serving Hartford and New Britain CT with Buick vehicles, is proud to announce that they are now officially the oldest continuously ran business in the Farmington Valley in Connecticut. They started off as a blacksmith in 1889 and became a car dealership in 1920.

The Hartford Connecticut Area Chevrolet dealer first opened its doors in an old white barn, behind East Avon Cemetery and the Congregational Church on Route 44. The company was a family owned blacksmith, and it was a logical progression to move from this trade into the automobile trade when they became more widespread. The business was started by Patrick O'Neill, who died in 1909 when a horse kicked him. Unfortunately, therefore, he was never able to see his business turn into a car dealership.

The dealership is still family-owned today, which is reflected in the name as well. The original anvil is also still present in the shop, and it is fully functional. In fact, should someone come in with a horse, they could have it re-shoed, although it is unlikely that any of today's staff has the skill and know-how to do that type of work.

Since its early years, the Connecticut Chevrolet dealer has always been keen to stay up to date with modern developments. In June 2013, the business completed a full renovation of their offices, which was celebrated in the community despite the pouring rain on that particular day. In fact, J. Anthony O'Neill of Avon, son of John H. O'Neill, who in turn was the son of the original founder, attended the grand re-opening four years ago. The business prides itself on its community feel and family-owned lengthy history and looks forward to many more years in business.
