A recent survey done by Nails4U on consumer preference to go for online shopping or physical store revealed a mixed response. The report concludes that the preference varies based on the timing; while people prefer to go out for shopping from physical store during holiday season, the same set of people shops online during regular days.

The survey was done with a motive to find out if online store should also go for physical presence and if that would help them to improve their branding and business. The survey was conducted in 4 stage to understand the difference in shopping behavior pattern during each time.

“We have considered the same sample size, age group and income group every time to ensure the consistency in our finding. We divided the survey in 4 phase; first phase during working days; second during weekend; third during long weekends and fourth during holiday season. While the convenience in online shopping always got a thumps up, we have seen large group preferring visit to stores during long weekends and holiday season,” said Alex, one of the survey volunteers from nails4u.

The report reveals some interesting data with over 70% of the people preferring online shopping during even holiday season to have peace of mind. Their idea of online shopping is just to avoid commuting time and in store crowd. Among in-store shoppers, more than 60% responded their buying decision based on their ability to look and feel the product first.

“We have noted few interesting set of data during in-store survey. More than 20% of respondents were quick to accept that they come to physical store to gather more information about the product but eventually they order the same online. They use physical store more as a resource center to understand the product,” Alex added.

The report also depicted graphical diagrams to understand the buying pattern behavior and how shoppers get into impulsive shopping while shopping online, thanks to the availability of tens of thousands of products in a single place. The company expect to release the next survey finding 10 weeks from now and they plan to release it through a video report and podcast.
