Chicago Dentist To Sponsor 5K Walk/Run For Childhood Cancer

1st Family Dental in Chicago, Illinois, has announced that they will be sponsoring the St. Jude 5K Walk/Run to end childhood cancer. In addition to sponsoring the event, the dental office has stated that they will be putting together a team and would like to invite people to join that team to help them raise $5,000 to help fight childhood cancer.

"We want to invite everyone, patients and even non-patients, to join our 5K team and help us fight this terrible childhood disease," says Vicky Khawaja with 1st Family Dental.

Founded in 1962, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a pediatric facility that works to end childhood cancer. It is often where doctors send their worst cases, because the facility has the highest survival rate for aggressive cases in the world. The hospital operates on donations, and never sends a bill to families for treatment, travel costs, housing, or food. Founded by the late Danny Thomas, the hospital believes that all families should be concerned with keeping that child with cancer comfortable and providing effective treatment.

Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped to push the childhood cancer survival rate from around 20 percent to more than 80 percent since the facility was first opened. The Chicago dentist office states that they fully support the efforts of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and want nothing more than to help with research into childhood cancer that could potentially end this horrific disease.

"We want to be part of this amazing facility that not only treats children with cancer, but comes up with amazing and effective breakthroughs that hospitals and doctors all over the world use for their own patients," says Khawaja. "We want everyone to join us in helping St. Jude by being part of our team in our upcoming cancer run/walk and help us raise money for this great cause."
