As technology progresses daily, the pubic has grown accustomed to controlling everything from one's phones.

From wanting a pizza, needing a game score, or wanting to check the weather or traffic. There’s probably an app that everyone can open right now and accomplish that. Plus, everyone’s phone probably has their credit card saved so one doesn’t even have to put out very little effort to pay at the end.

Following that logic, it only makes sense that home builders would move toward a similar result with home automation systems that make everyone’s day-to-day life inside the house just as easy as the one using their phone. Cornerstone Homes is now integrating these Smart Home Automations aspects into their homes.

The industry is looking at what that looks like for home builders. That takes many forms. Below is a few of the trendiest ones in detail.

Smart from the Start

This Smart technology gives total control of who has access to the home and when they do, and it starts with the front door.

Many home automation systems now include smart door locks and even video doorbells that help provide an extra level of security whether everyone is home or away. The first allows everyone to lock and unlock the door to be programmed with a code (or several) giving kids the ability to enter the home even if they lose their keys. Or more of a single-use plan for contractors and other technicians to save everyone a half-day at loss of work to supervise a service call.

A video doorbell may give everyone an extra sense of peace with a short recording of visitors — and the occasional bird — that visits the front porch so everyone can see when the kids get home from school, someone delivers a package, or has more nefarious plans.

One or both options can probably tie into a smart home security system giving everyone an even more complete automation system.

Safety and Security

According to the 2015 statistics from the FBI, property crimes occur every 3.9 seconds in the United States. The average loss per burglary was $2,316 and 58 percent involved forcible entry.

This is a big part of the reason that custom home builders like Cornerstone Homes are starting to include smart home security systems in every new home they build. This can range from the smart door locks and home security cameras to glass break sensors on the windows and smoke detectors inside the home.

Most of these systems will notify the owner through an app or a call if anything seems awry at home giving them the opportunity to address the threat in real-time and call the police if need be.

Comfort and Convenience

Once the residence is safely and securely settled inside and out, smart home devices can make everyone’s day-to-day even easier to master.

Start with the environment and control the temperature with a smart thermostat. This can help everyone lower energy costs with the ability to monitor usage and change settings on the go.

Then turn to the lighting. No one likes hunting for the right switches or stumbling around in the dark. An automation system can prevent both of these by consolidating the controls with smart light bulbs switches and outlets.

One of the most popular purchases is the smart speaker. Whether one uses Alexa, Echo or a Google Assistant, these smart home integrations shave valuable minutes off the morning routine with weather and traffic reports, schedule updates and quick answers to any other questions to help everyone prepare for the day ahead.

The Future is Now With Cornerstone Homes

The United States alone by 2020, the smart house market is predicted to reach a value of 40 billion USD. That means, home buyers will likely come to accept these features as standard as they shop in the future.

Some of the companies staying ahead of the curve are relying on “Smart Home” branding to showcase their offerings.

This can include any of the things mentioned above in addition to a smart range and carbon dioxide detectors to keep everyone’s family safe inside the home as well.
