First Aid Shoppe, providers of high end emergency first aid and survival gear and kits, today reported that their Mini CPR Masks are protecting users from contact with victims during the administration of emergency CPR.

The Mini CPR Keychain by First Aid Shoppe is designed to be easy to have on hand with an emergency happens, and then to shield the user when performing rescue breathing. "This mask protects you," says Ms. Loehwing. "And it's small. So small you won't actually believe there's a mask in there. The entire little pouch is about the size of a key fob. So easy to have on hand, and when the need arises, the Mini CPR Keychain Mask will allow you to confidently and quickly see to your own safety so you can save others."
The CPR Mask is a fold-out mask stored in a small nylon pouch. The pouch is attached to a key ring. The overall size is less than that of a standard key fob. First Aid Shoppe reports that the mask is easy to use in a CPR emergency, simply by removing the mask from the pouch and unfolding, then placing it over the victim's mouth and administering rescue breathing through the mask and one-way valve. The CPR Mini-Mask shields the rescue breather from direct contact with the victim. "The mask is transparent," says Ms. Loehwing, "with clear instructions printed on the outward facing portion. In the center is the heart of the mask, a one-way valve that controls airflow and backwash, greatly reducing the risk of infection. The mask minimizes or eliminates contact with the person being resuscitated."
Ms. Loehwing says users have reported success with the mask. "I hope you don't ever find yourself in a situation where you need to use this," she says Ms. Loehwing, "but having one of these on-hand could be a lifesaver. They're so small and so easy to keep with you at all times."
