SWAT for the tourniquet stands for Stretch Wrap And Tuck, and it was intended to mirror the same acronym in use by police forces around the world. The quick-use emergency tourniquet can be applied immediately and high in the groin or armpit area to stop arterial bleeding.
"This tourniquet was developed out of a need for something you could have in the field and deploy fast in the case of a serious bleeding emergency," says First Aid Shoppe COO, Anna Loehwing. The ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet allows a very rapid means of controlling extremity bleeding, and it can be applied higher into the groin and armpit areas than other tourniquets. The kit also includes an Advanced Clotting Sponge, a contact clotting sponge that accelerates clotting when applied directly to the source of the wound.
