BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on the concerning results of several studies that appear to connect the use of anticoagulant Xarelto to increased risk of dangerous bleeding episodes, such as spontaneous vitreous hemorrhages, (also known as eye bleeds), and internal gastrointestinal bleeds.

The number of lawsuits concerning Xarelto and filed against Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals continues to increase, and, as they do, public focus has shifted to the current multidistrict litigation which is comprised of over 2,800 of these cases. Both plaintiffs and the general public are now addressing the potentially severe side effects of Xarelto. Several especially notable studies have given plaintiffs important information as they look forward to pursuing justice through trials.

On June 25, 2015, JAMA Ophthalmology published a study highlighting a connection found by researchers between consumer use of rivaroxaban (Xarelto’s generic counterpart) and a heightened risk of spontaneous vitreous hemorrhaging within the eyes. Doctors conducting the research also found that “The risk of hemorrhage may be particularly elevated during the transition period when patients are switched from baseline anticoagulant to rivaroxaban therapy and are taking both anticoagulants simultaneously.”

Xarelto is currently the subject of two black box warnings from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This is the most strict warning a product can be given before it is fully removed from the market. These new results suggest that the dangerous side effects connected to the drug are things that the public should be especially aware of, specifically those consumers who may be switching to use Xarelto after using a traditional anticoagulant.

Another study which linked some potential risks to Xarelto was published in BMJ in April of 2015, and its results noted that Xarelto (rivaroxaban) use may as much as double a patient’s risk of suffering gastrointestinal bleeds when compared with those taking warfarin (a traditional blood thinner). Upon completing the study, the researchers stated, “...we cannot rule out...a more than twofold higher risk of bleeding with rivaroxaban compared with warfarin.”

Attorney Joseph Osborne understands the devastating and potentially fatal effects of serious bleeding episodes. He is currently working to assist anyone who has not yet filed a Xarelto lawsuit, but who has suffered from serious health issues that they connect to the drug. He feels that these individuals are entitled to the opportunity to fully explore their legal rights. They may be able to gain significant compensation. To encourage their pursuit of justice, Attorney Osborne is offering free legal consultations for those who qualify at this time.
