Las Vegas, Nevada -
Las Vegas Eye Institute, based in Las Vegas, NV, is happy to announce that Dr. Matthew Swanic has recently made available his book that serves as guide to LASIK eye surgery in Las Vegas, in Kindle format, on Amazon.com. The book answers questions and informs about the LASIK process, cost, etc. in Las Vegas and at LVEI. LASIK surgery can be used to correct patients’ vision, such that they no longer have to depend on contact lenses or eye glasses, resulting in a better quality of life.
Dr. Matthew Swanic founded Las Vegas Eye Institute in 2013 after serving in a large private practice. He was born and raised in Las Vegas and graduated with honors from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and later earned his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He earned several awards while in medical school and graduated at the top of his class. He went on accomplish his residency training in ophthalmology at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. He also completed his fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Dr. Swanic’s goal is to provide his patients with the best vision possible, being board certified in ophthalmology and an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
LASIK means laser in-situ keratomileusis and is a popular kind of surgery that can be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. Its basic principle is the reshaping of the cornea with a laser to ensure that the light focuses on the retina, the way a normal eye would. It is this failure of the eye to focus the light on the retina that results in blurry vision, which is known as a refractive error.
There are several LASIK surgeons in the Las Vegas area, and the guide provides clarity on questions to talk about with your LASIK surgeon before selecting a surgeon.
There are several advantages of LASIK eye surgery. These include the fact that: the technology is established and approximately 96 percent of patients successfully achieve their vision goals after the surgery; there’s very little pain, if any, involved; there are no stitches or bandages; if the vision changes as the patient ages, the doctor can adjust it; and there would be little to no need for corrective contacts or glasses.
During LASIK eye surgery, Dr. Swanic will use eye drops to numb the eyes. Patients may also request a mild sedative. The procedure will only last for approximately 20 minutes and patients are advised to have someone drive them home after the procedure.
After the procedure, the doctor will provide some prescription eye drops to prevent inflammation and infection. Eye drops may also be prescribed to keep the eyes moist. Patients need to avoid using other kinds of eye drops that have not been prescribed by the doctor. It is recommended that they don’t use a hot tub or swim for the next two weeks. A plastic shield may be worn over the eyes to protect them while sleeping.
