Irvine, CA-based Hard Drive Recovery Group (HDRG) is pleased to announce that they have posted a new blog post on their website that talks about whether social media is a boon or a bane to the modern world. The full blog post can be read here: https://www.harddriverecovery.org/blog/is-social-media-a-boon-or-bane-in-this-woke-world/.

One of the biggest, if not the biggest contribution of Generation Z in terms of technology is social media. The younger generation seems to have taken over the throne of power, influence and sheer number of users among all social media platforms from millennials in the current social network era. Young people are quick to defend that their contributions to contemporary society via social media are huge and relevant, even utilizing their arsenal of hashtags and followers to prove the importance of social media.

However, many question whether social media has truly made a relevant difference in lifestyles around the world. They also question whether social media platforms been used to the benefit of the world by illuminating various issues and challenges through online movements — and even whether social media itself has behaved responsibly with this much power. Hard Drive Recovery Group attempts to provide some answers to these questions in their new blog post.

Facebook is one of the most popular online platforms where most people first encountered the world of social media. However, the platform has lately been subject to speculations and rumors of racism once again. This is in addition to it being accused of tolerating the propagation of fake news. This can lead to a buildup of backlash that Facebook cannot afford. Due to Facebook’s lack of action against hate speech, racism and fake news, some individuals and multinational organizations have already taken steps to boycott Facebook and reduce ad spending on the platform. The number of companies that have joined the boycott is still increasing.

Race relations in America are once again in the spotlight, and social media personalities' careers can be damaged because of content that has been produced in the past. Their previously created content may have once been seen as harmless but are now viewed as offensive. Social media also contains receipts that can be used to remind social media personalities of their past actions. Some Youtube stars, including Shane Dawson, have already gotten into trouble because of their older content.

According to an article from The Verge, “Dawson is one of a number of white YouTube stars who have been attempting to address their past use of racist depictions, characters and stereotypes in comedic videos this week. Apologies for racist videos have also come from Jenna Marbles and David Dobrik, and responses from viewers have been mixed as fans try to figure out how to hold major creators accountable for their past actions. The timing comes amid ongoing anti-racism protests around the country.”

Another movement on social media is the Me Too movement which saw its heyday in 2019. The Me Too movement may have recently taken a back seat to more popular movements, such as the Black Lives Matter movement and others related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but huge news about this social media paradigm continues to arrive. Some women have utilized Twitter as a platform to accuse popular Hollywood personalities of misconduct and misbehaviors. One event that may have influenced the rise of the Me Too movement on Twitter is the guilty verdict on former Hollywood bigwig Harvey Weinstein on several sexual misconduct charges.

People have also used social media platforms to take concrete action that contributes to the taming of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some problems do not need to lead to movements. For example, people who have problems regarding lost documents can ask for assistance from Hard Drive Recovery Group. Hard Drive Recovery Group is dedicated to recovering their clients’ data to the extent of their capabilities. Interested parties can learn more about them by heading over to their website.
