Concrete of Houston is a commercial contractor that specializes in large-sized concrete pours. They were extremely proud of a recent award for a turnkey 75,000 square foot commercial concrete project. The company has announced that they shot an 8-minute YouTube video detailing the second phase of of the concrete project. It’s the type of project that has made this Houston based contractor one of the most popular commercial concrete options in the area.

The above-mentioned concrete pour was done for a company called GCG Petroleum at their Tomball, Texas location. It was such a large project that it had to be done in several phases. The first phase of the job was poured a week prior and involved pouring some 28,500 square feet of concrete. In the second phase, which was detailed in the YouTube video, included a slightly smaller but more difficult 15,000 square feet pour. This video was narrated by the company owner Robert Ferguson himself. It was obvious from this video that Ferguson is very much involved in his company’s projects from start to finish.

At the start of the video, which takes place at around 4 AM, the owner went over what the day’s work would involve. He talked about how his crews had meticulously put all of the redwood forms and rebar necessary for the pour in place over the previous several days. It was also mentioned that he likes his crews and the pump truck to be there before the concrete trucks arrive to make sure that everything is all set to go. Ferguson stated they had to make sure everything was ready to go because they would be pouring concrete at the incredible rate of 100 cubic yards per hour. This equates to emptying a large size concrete truck every six to ten minutes. The company owner also mentioned in the video that the specs for the project called for 3500 PSI rated concrete but that they like to over-deliver so they opted to pour 4000 PSI rated concrete instead. Concrete of Houston was assisted on the job by Texas Pumpers which provided the concrete for the project. Ferguson went on to say that they have an excellent working relationship with the company as was evidenced by the fact that they had several fully loaded concrete trucks onsite and standing by well before the actual pour was scheduled to begin. He added that the coordination between their two companies was important because a steady flow of concrete was critical to the successful completion of that day's pour. Incredibly, the entire 15,000 square feet section of the project that was to be poured would only take 2 to 3 hours. This was only possible due to the sophisticated pumping trucks that Texas Pumpers had provided for this phase of the project. The video went on to show how the concrete was pumped into the different formed sections of this phase and how the crews at Concrete of Houston went about smoothing and floating the concrete after it was poured.
