Laguna Niguel, CA - With hot summer weather either here or on it’s way in much of the country, it’s important for owners to know how to protect their dogs from the dangerous effects of getting overheated. Not only can hot weather make dogs uncomfortable, it can at times even be life threatening.
On hot days, if a dog is outside, owners need to make sure he has a shady place in which to rest. A doghouse is not a good idea, as these structures can quickly overheat by trapping heat inside.
Owners are advised to get a relatively inexpensive child wading pool and fill it with several inches of water for their dog to jump in and cool down. In addition, owners should always provide a plentiful supply of fresh, clean cool water for their dogs.
Other recommendations include not exercising dogs on really hot days, as this can lead to overheating and not allowing the dog to walk on hot pavement or sand as this can burn his paw pads.
