Tuscaloosa, Ala. -The Alabama Department of Corrections has taken several measures to guard against the spread of COVID-19, or Coronavirus. According to a bail bond agent in Tuscaloosa County, prisons across the state have begun manufacturing protective masks and taking extra precautions to limit the spread.

Prison is a perfect breeding ground for the spread of viruses, as inmates are in close proximity of each other and often do not practice proper hygiene such as handwashing. The actions The Department of Corrections have taken have been in accordance with the Center for Disease Control and other health regulations.

Another prevalent concern for Alabama prisons is the maxed capacity. Some facilities have nearly two times as many inmates as they should, making social distancing nearly impossible. Many inmates have reached out to give a voice to these concerns.

Correctional officers are also concerned about their own health and safety. Many correctional officers oversee hundreds of inmates at once, leaving them very exposed. They then go home to their families and risk getting them sick as well.

Unfortunately, both correctional officers and inmates have expressed deep concerns that they are not given necessary information promptly. Many inmates have found out about fellow inmates testing positive for COVID-19 through the news, and not their own correctional officers. Their correctional officers, on the other hand, are not receiving that critical information either.

It’s difficult to assess the correct action to be taken, but Tuscaloosa bail bond companies assert that Alabama’s correctional officers and inmates both have a right to know when they are at an increased risk of getting sick. While some worry about inciting a panic, it is far better to have informed Americans who can do their part in not spreading the virus.
