Unlocking The Body Massage Therapy, a massage therapy clinic and day spa in Puyallup, Washington, has announced that they also provide services other than massage therapy, such as flotation therapy, medical massage therapy, shiatsu massage, cupping therapy, craniosacral therapy, fascial stretch therapy, gua sha therapy, hot stone massage, intraoral massage therapy, kenisio taping, prenatal massage, manual lymph drainage, reflexology, reiki, relaxation Swedish massage, Thai yoga massage, and breast massage.

Jennifer Bull, LMT, owner of Unlocking The Body Massage Therapy, says, “Our Float Pool has about 250 gallons of solution, approximately 12" deep and uses around 1200 pounds of dissolved epsom salts to make you float weightlessly. Our unique set up provides ample room in the Float Pool, differentiating us from other local facilities with a smaller pod enclosure. For those who can't seem to get a good arm span, leg stretch, felt claustrophobic, or that they are breathing recycled air, our Float Pool provides a comfortable alternative to a pod enclosure.”

She continues, “We offer many bolstering methods, room temperature, water temperature, and other comfort options, free of charge to learn your preferred float environment. For sound options, you can float with nothing like traditional sensory deprivation sessions, or a personalized experience with your own music, music we have pre-selected and tested with success, or even guided meditations and chakra balancing floats. To figure out your ideal float tank in Puyallup, we recommend purchasing a 3 float package to figure out your preferences and we will prepare your room to your desired specifications.”

The medical massage therapy that they provide is results oriented and is specifically used for resolving conditions that have been diagnosed and prescribed by a physician, naturopath, or chiropractor. The massage therapist may apply a wide range of modalities or procedures but focus will be made on the areas of the body that are related to the prescription or diagnosis. Massage therapy has many benefits, including the release of tight and sore muscles; relief of nerve compression or entrapment; deactivation of myofascial trigger points; and reduction of pain and inflammation.

Meanwhile, they also offer craniosacral therapy, which is a gentle, hands-on approach that may be able to release tensions located deep in the body to ease pain and dysfunction and enhance the entire body’s health and performance. Each session is usually one hour long.

Fascial stretch therapy (FST) may also be offered by Unlocking The Body Massage Therapy. This is an innovative stretch therapy modality that was originally intended for professional athletes. In contrast to massage and other stretching techniques, FST begins at the joint capsule and then focuses on the lines of muscles and fascia and planes of tissue, rather than just individual muscles. Fascia is the one that surrounds the muscles and like other tissues, the fascia can become tight and less mobile, resulting in a reduced range of motion, reduced ability to recovery from activity, and discomfort from stretching.

Another interesting therapy is gua sha therapy, which is also known as skin scraping. This is said to have originated from the Paleolithic Age and has been an important component of traditional Chinese medicine. For this therapy, the massage practitioner will utilize a non-porous tool that is made from buffalo horn, smooth volcanic stone, jade, or other polished mineral stones to lightly scrape the surface of the patient’s tissue. When used with oil or massage lotion, the immediate impact of gua sha therapy is increased circulation in the area that has pain and tightness.

And then there is intraoral massage therapy, which is often used for temporomandibular disorders (TMD). TMD is caused by problems with the jaw, the jaw joint, and the surrounding facial muscles that move the jaw bone and control chewing. Intraoral massage may help with facial pain; back, neck or cervical pain; jaw joint pain; postural problems; and headaches.
