London X City Reports On Serena Williams’ Defeat Against Naomi Osaka

London X City, a digital lifestyle magazine based in London, England, has recently reported on the shocking defeat of Serena Williams against 20 year-old Naomi Osaka during the U.S. Open tennis final. The match, which was one of the most anticipated matches of the year, took an unexpected turn in the second set and caused a wave of controversy during and after the game.

Chloe from London x City says, "Everyone who has seen this match had to be completely shocked at how quickly it escalated. Between Serena's comeback from having her daughter, to how well she's done in her tournaments this year, I don't think anyone expected a loss, let alone a loss like this."

Before the final started both Williams and Osaka were excited about the match in press interviews. Osaka herself said that she had grown up admiring Serena Williams and was thrilled to be playing her in the final. Williams made a strong showing at Wimbeldon over the summer, making the final but losing in the final to Angelique Kerber after blazing through her previous matches. Expectations were high for the match.

"That first set was an exciting one, but only because both Serena and Naomi were playing phenomenally," Chloe says. "It looked like it was just going to be an excellent and challenging match for both players. But despite a great performance from Serena, Naomi won the first set 6-2. Everybody went into that second set thinking Serena would even it up, but then it just escalated. The match's chair umpire Carlos Ramos is known for being very strict and having a painstaking eye for detail in all of his matches, and that really became obvious very quickly."

During the second set, Ramos called Williams out on a rule violation for coaching, saying that her coach Patrick Mouratoglou was making hand gestures and coaching her from the stands, which is considered cheating. Mouratoglou says that most coaches make hand gestures to their players at their games and it does not get a warning. Unfortunately, Ramos did not see it that way and gave a warning.

Williams immediately responded to the warning by asking for an apology. "You owe me an apology. I have never cheated in my life. I have a daughter and I stand for what's right for her," Williams said to Ramos after the warning. "I don't cheat to win. I'd rather lose."

After hitting the net on a double fault, the frustration came to a head, and Williams threw her racket to the ground, breaking it. The action caused Ramos to deduct a point for the violation. The loss of the point further frustrated Williams, causing her to call Ramos a "thief" for taking the point away from her. That in turn caused Ramos to deduct a full game from Williams.

Williams tried to play her way back into the match at that point, but according to Chloe at www.londonxcity.com, all of the emotions of the day had caught up and Williams dropped the second set. "You could tell that Serena was trying so hard to get back into the game, but it was obvious her frustration had completely derailed her game," Chloe says. "Up until then it had been an exciting match that was looking like it was going to go on for a while longer. But Serena unfortunately just couldn't get back into the game."

Osaka ended up winning the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, becoming the first Japanese player to win a major tournament. During the trophy ceremony, however, both players were emotional and boos could be heard from the crowd over the ending of the match. Williams was seen trying to console Osaka during the ceremony, but it was clear the crowd was protesting the officiating.

"It was such a sad ending to what could've been a match for the ages," Chloe says. "Osaka should be proud of her accomplishment, and Serena has stood firm for fair officiating in women's matches. Hopefully we'll see a lot more exciting tennis from these two superstars for years to come."
