Healthy Smiles Dental, a dentist office in Anchorage, AK, is proud to announce that to date they have received 378 five star reviews. The clinic is led by family dentist, Dr. Terry J. Preece, who has been practicing dentistry in Alaska since 2008.

Dr. Preece, himself, says, "At Healthy Smiles Dental, we recognize that dentistry is an art and a science. Our goal is to provide our guests with the smiling, healthy confidence they seek at the greatest level of comfort possible. We take the time to listen, talk to, and care for you on an individual level, and you always receive our full attention."

Gary P., one of those who gave the clinic five stars, says, "My daughter is 7 years old and needed urgent dental care. Dr. Preece did a great job. I really liked how they explained all the options for her course of care. The paperwork was all in-line and easy to complete. The fit is right in and it was convenient. I would recommend them. I like that our whole family can get care all at one facility."

Meanwhile, Matthew R., who also gave the clinic five stars, says, "Dr. Preece & Emily were very professional, caring, and knowledgeable in their field. Being from Va. I had not been to a dentist yet in Alaska and they gave me a lasting positive experience that will keep me coming back as a regular patient. You feel welcome, comfortable, and valued as a person. They will thoroughly explain your options so that you may decide how to best treat your teeth and be happy with your outcome. I highly recommend their office and team and will definitely keep them as my primary dentist in Alaska."

The dentist in Anchorage offers cosmetic dentistry, comprehensive dentistry, teeth whitening, and sedation dentistry. He offers sedation dentistry as part of his goal of ensuring that patients are able to feel calm and relaxed during consultation and treatment. There are different levels of sedation and different ways of inducing it. First, there is nitrous oxide gas, which is better known as laughing gas and is totally safe and non-invasive. Then there is the oral conscious sedation, which makes use of drugs and allows patients to snooze but they can be easily awakened. And finally, there is the parenteral sedation of IV sedation. This provides deeper sedation and can be done in a hospital or surgery center.

An important service provided by Dr. Preece is cosmetic dentistry because it can do great things to a person's smile, thus boosting his self-esteem and self-confidence. The cosmetic services offered at Healthy Smiles Dental includee porcelain crowns and bridges, smile design, teeth whitening, dental implants, teeth contouring, direct bonding, porcelain and composite resin veneers, tooth colored fillings, gum contouring, closing of spaces and gaps, restoration of chipped teeth, and premium aesthetic dentures.

Meanwhile, for his full-care, comprehensive dentistry, Dr. Preece takes a long term approach to a patient's care. Thus, the dentistry that is received by patients are designed to last for a long time. This requires taking account the materials used, the patient's oral habits, the bite forces, home care habits of the patient, and general health. Full-care, comprehensive dentistry is very different from the usual patch and fill dentistry where only specific parts of the teeth are treated at one time. Dr. Preece explains that this kind of dentistry is like trying to fight a forest fire by focusing on one tree at a time. He explains that adults, especially the older adults, usually have complex dental problems. Thus, he will conduct a thorough exam that includes examination of the soft tissue, muscles and joints, and even an oral cancer check.

Dr. Preece obtained his degree from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1980. He then established a successful private general practice in Layton, Utah, which lasted for 28 years. He then move to the island of Wrangell in Alaska in 2008 and there, he provided a wide array of dental services for the whole population of 1,800 people. And then in August 2010, he and his family moved to Anchorage, where he founded the Healthy Smiles Dental clinic.

He continues to attend extensive continuing education courses to ensure that he is able to provide comprehensive, high-quality, full-care dentistry in Anchorage. He is an active member of the Anchorage Dental Society, Alaska Dental Society, American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
