Risperdal Lawsuit Plaintiffs Note Millions Paid In Risperdal Jury Verdicts

Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary company Janssen Pharmaceuticals manufactures anti-psychotic drug Risperdal and has been facing ongoing legal problems the past few years in reference to the drug.

In February of 2015, Risperdal and Johnson & Johnson were the recipients of two multimillion dollar verdicts, one of which was given to the family of a young man who claimed he had developed severe gynecomastia while taking the drug and the other to South Carolina for marketing fraud.

A jury in Philadelphia reportedly awarded $2.5 million to the young man who developed gynecomastia, after determining that Johnson & Johnson was liable for the drug’s physically and emotionally debilitating side effects. It was decided that the company had neglected to properly warn users that the drug could cause this condition, which causes young men to develop breasts. The young man involved, who is now 21 years old, started to use the drug at the young age of 8 to treat potential autism, and has since developed size 46DD breasts.

Risperdal is a strong drug which was FDA approved in the early 1990’s to treat schizophrenia in adults but was not approved for use on children until 2006. Johnson & Johnson and Janssen are also facing allegations that they encouraged “off-label” prescriptions for children long before this use was FDA-approved.
