BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a lawsuit filed against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, (a subdivision of Johnson & Johnson corporation, and the manufacturer of new-generation blood thinner Xarelto). Plaintiffs filing this complaint are a couple from Nebraska who claim that Janssen has produced a dangerous drug which caused the husband to suffer from serious and lasting health complications including a significant bleeding event and decreased life expectancy. Their lawsuit was filed under case number 2:15-cv-06514 in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Lawsuit details indicate that the husband used Xarelto from May until December of 2013, after receiving a prescription for the anticoagulant from his physician. When he suddenly experienced a serious gastrointestinal bleed, however, he stopped taking the drug.

Unfortunately, these plaintiffs are far from alone in their claims. Since its 2011 debut after gaining approval from the U.S. FDA, Xarelto has become the subject of over 3,400 lawsuits filed by plaintiffs from across the country who share strikingly similar allegations. The plaintiffs allege that the blood thinner places those using it at elevated risk for spontaneous, dangerous bleeding events.

Of the thousands of Xarelto lawsuits filed, those filed federally have been consolidated and transferred to form MDL No. 2592 in Eastern Louisiana by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. This grouping is reported to contain over 2,800 cases today. In addition, another group of more than 620 Xarelto lawsuits has been consolidated to form a mass tort program by the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both of these groups are expected to see continued growth in lawsuit filings as time progresses.

Further details concerning this particular lawsuit indicate that the plaintiffs are requesting compensatory and punitive damages in addition to financing to assist with legal fees. While the many Xarelto lawsuit plaintiffs await bellwether trial dates set for early 2017, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working help assist others who believe that they were negatively affected by taking Xarelto. He wants to ensure that affected patients will be given the opportunity to explore their legal rights in the matter.
