BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on some of the similarities between Xarelto lawsuits and previously settled Pradaxa lawsuits, which provide comfort and hope to plaintiffs looking to pursue justice. Xarelto lawsuits now number over 3,000. There are more than 2,800 cases filed in federal courts and consolidated to form MDL no. 2592, and, additionally, there are over 550 cases which have been consolidated to form a mass tort group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lawsuits which make up multidistrict litigation number 2592 were consolidated by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation and are currently being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon in New Orleans.

Consolidated cases all contain similar allegations and have been filed against defendants Bayer Healthcare and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, (a subdivision of Johnson & Johnson corporation). Plaintiffs involved all commonly claim that blood-thinning drug Xarelto can put users at increased risk for sudden and dangerous bleeding episodes, both internal and external, some of which can lead to death.

At the beginning of 2016, Judge Fallon required that plaintiffs and defendants involved each choose 10 cases to form a bellwether pool of 40 cases. From this pool, he noted that 4 cases would be chosen to be heard as bellwether trials in 2017. It is expected by many that as these cases await trial, others will join the MDL and mass tort group and lawsuits filed concerning the dangers of Xarelto will continue to increase in number.

Pradaxa is similar to Xarelto in that it is also considered a new-generation blood thinner. It was marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim in October, 2010. As plaintiffs are now seeing with the Xarelto cases, shortly after Pradaxa was released to market, it was surrounded by more than 3,500 reports of adverse health events. Over 750 of these cases reported the death of a patient who was using Pradaxa. The blood thinner quickly became the topic of more than 4,000 lawsuits from across the nation. The night before Pradaxa trials were set to begin, Boehringer Ingelheim chose to settle the cases by paying $650 million to plaintiffs.

Xarelto plaintiffs find hope in the result of these lawsuits as they prepare to face their own trials. At this time, there have not yet been talks of settlement from Bayer or Janssen. While trial preparations continue to take place, Attorney Joseph Osborne has been working to help ensure that everyone negatively affected by Xarelto will have the opportunity to fully investigate their legal rights. He is now offering free legal consultations for involved parties, to help encourage others to join in the fight for justice. It is believed that those who were negatively affected by the drug may be entitled to legal action and substantial compensation.
