Award-Winning Author Janelle Jalbert to Share “Adoption Day” on Jammiest Jams of Storytelling

Dog lovers know that pups are gifts from above that grace us with a chance to enjoy the simplest things in life. While humans like to think that they are the ones who decide whether or not a pet is adopted, the truth is that the pooch often does the picking.  That is the premise for “Adoption Day” in FLASH 40: LIFE’S MOMENTS, one of the selections from the award-winning anthology of flash fiction by Janelle Jalbert.  

On Friday, February 5, 2016, Janelle Jalbert will join the Jammiest of Jams Storytelling Podcast to share “Adoption Day” with listeners. “I’m so excited about the opportunity to share ‘Adoption Day’ with listeners. Not only is it a story close to my heart because it is loosely based on one of my own experiences, but also it helps get the word out about flash fiction as a genre,” said Jalbert. “Many readers think that flash fiction is just another way of saying ‘short story’. Yes, they can be seen that way, but flash fiction works within more restricted word counts. Some stories can be as short as a sentence or two and can range all the way up to 1,500 words or so.” Jalbert explained. “A writer of flash fiction must be practiced in getting the message and feeling of a story conveyed within that context.”

FLASH 40: LIFE’S MOMENTS (2014, Synchron8 Publishing) won the Silver Medal for Anthologies in the 2015 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards. The collection of stories is comprised of 40 selections, all of which are 1,000 words or less. The theme of the anthology – life’s moments – is broken into four elements: beginnings, middles, endings, and beyond. The stories highlight experiences ranging from the mundane to the sublime, giving readers the impression of snapshots in time.

Jalbert was an educator for more than a decade while also serving as a ghostwriter, copywriter, and even a motorsports reporter/photographer. She began writing flash fiction after one of her stories was accepted to an online flash fiction magazine. That story, “Love in the Time of Online Dating”, led to a position as a regular contributor to the magazine and was the impetus for FLASH 40: LIFE’S MOMENTS. The anthology was also Jalbert’s debut into fiction writing in 2014. The release of her debut novel TRIANGULATING BLISS (2015, Synchron8 Publishing) followed the award-winning anthology in 2015. Jalbert has a variety of non-fiction published including WINE FOR BEGINNERS (2015, For Beginners Publishing) and her upcoming memoir WINGDOG: SOUL PUP (2016, Synchron8 Publishing) which is scheduled for initial release on Amazon in March and wide release with most major book retailers scheduled in June 2016.
