MARGATE, Fla. – This week, the executive staff of Reflections Treatment Center collected and donated 145 toys to Wilton Manors, Florida-based Kids in Distress (KID), a licensed nationally accredited agency working for the prevention of child abuse, preservation of the family, and the treatment of abused and neglected children. Reflections Treatment Center founder Kenny Chatman delivered the toys along with bestselling author Dr. Barry Gregory, the facility’s clinical director.

NBA veteran Keyon Dooling partnered with Reflections Treatment Center for the event. Dooling, author of “What’s Driving You???” is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and the founder of The Respect Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps provide resources, support and information to ensure the safety of all children. During the toy drive event, Dooling greeted the children in attendance and joined them for fun on the playground and a catered lunch of sandwiches and chips. He also presented autographed copies of his new book to Mark Dhooge, chief executive officer of KID and the rest of the agency’s staff. Keyon is a native of Fort Lauderdale and is a major supporter of programs benefiting the well being of young people in the area.

“We are deeply committed to collaborating with community partners to help meet the needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children in Broward and Palm Beach counties,” said Mr. Chatman. “Kids In Distress provides invaluable services for abused children, offering everything from counseling to foster and adoption services. We hope that the toy drive helps to further their mission to fill gaps, foster compassion and transform children’s futures.”

Reflections Treatment Center is an outpatient facility founded by Kenny Chatman that provides clients with real life skills to address co-occurring disorders and embrace recovery as a way of life. The facility’s expert and dedicated staff believes in a Twelve Step integrated recovery program and works with clients to help them understand, identify and practice the twelve steps and their underlying principles to help them stay committed to sobriety and assimilate back into society.

The facility’s disciplined environment and teaching methods help clients effectively achieve self-fulfillment, gainful employment and social participation. Services include expressive therapy, anger management, stress management, psychoeducation, work placement programs, pre-natal addiction treatment, HIV services and more.

Reflections Treatment Center also produces “Recovery Live,” a radio program that airs each Saturday at 9:00 a.m. on 640 AM and on www.640sports.com. Recent guests have included Keyon Dooling and Patricia Rosen, publisher of “The Sober World.”

“We believe that recovery is a journey, not a destination,” said Dr. Gregory. “Our goal is to provide all of the tools, resources and support that our clients and their families need to achieve permanent recovery one day at a time.”
