Dr. Matt Schocket of the Austin Capital Pain Management Clinic has successfully implanted the very first wireless spinal cord stimulation trial system in the world. The patient was an 84 year old male with chronic neuropathy and the procedure was performed at Capitol Pain Institute in Austin, TX.
St. Jude Medical, Inc. (NYSE:STJ), a global medical device company, received FDA approval for its Invisible Trial System, the industry's first fully wireless spinal cord stimulation trial system to incorporate both Bluetooth and Apple devices. Todd Dawson of St. Jude Medical was quite pleased with having Dr. Schocket successfully doing the implantation of the device.
"Dr. Schocket is one of the foremost experts in Spinal Cord Stimulation, having performed over 1500 procedures in the past 6 years," says Mr. Dawson. "He and his Austin clinic are known for a number of firsts. Besides having trained over 500 physicians to perform spinal procedures, he was among the first to perform the full-HD video assisted discectomy procedure and the minimally invasive lumbar decompression in this country. His pain management facility was the first to introduce iOvera patentented cryogenic technology to Austin. Now, the good doctor is the first to have completed the wireless spinal cord stimulation implant."
Dr. Schocket, a respected doctor among Austin Pain Management Physicians and Specialists who frequently holds national and international lectures on pain management and new developments in techniques, marvels, "This new Spinal Cord Stimulation trial system from St. Jude Medical is a design revolution. It is so small and discreet as to be practically invisible. I like the fact that without all kind of external cables like other SCS devices, it provides patients with greater flexibility and comfort. The adaption of mobile technology helps greatly with ease of use."
The patient accesses a user-friendly system utilizing an Apple app on their mobile device to take the control of their own neurostimulation therapy. Doctors and clinicians can easily establish optimum stimulation programs using their own clinician programmer app on an Apple iPad. The SCS invisible trial system features the smallest external pulse generator (EPG) in the industry.
The Capitol Pain Institute in Austin looks forward to following the patient's progress.
