Kyo Autism Therapy, based in Grapevine, TX, is offering in-home applied behavior analysis (ABA) services, which is composed of parent training and ABA therapy for the child. Parent training on ABA strategies and techniques will be provided through one-on-one board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) coaching and live modeling with the child and ABA staff. The ABA therapy will also be one-on-one between one of their trained behavior therapists and the child.

A spokesperson for Kyo Autism Therapy says, “When your child’s clinical team begins to work with your child, the supervising BCBA will work with you to assess your child’s baseline skills. The BCBA will then design an individualized treatment plan for your child that targets specific skills for instruction. The treatment plan will include long-term goals, typically measured every six months, and short-term objectives, which may change often as skills are mastered–probably every few days or weeks.”

Children who succeed in mastering short-term goals, such as talking in three-word phrases, engaging in a back-and-forth conversation with peer, or tying their shoes, show a progressive path towards accomplishing their long-term goals, such as mastering dressing themselves independently and regularly conversing with peers. To measure the progress being made by the child with ABA therapy, at Kyo Autism Therapy, they apply the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, which is a norm-reference assessment. They believe that this is the most effective measurement tool for ABA clinicians because it shows how the children are demonstrating the skills they learned via ABA therapy in their daily lives. The scale can be adjusted according to age when measuring the child’s skills, compared to what is typically shown by children at a particular age.

ABA therapy can help children develop their skills such as communicating requests, following directions, and taking turns playing games. These skills become really useful when they are applied by the children in their daily lives outside of the therapy sessions. Vineland is used to assess who the children are applying their new skills every day and how they are progressing over time.

Their in-home ABA services are specifically designed based on the specific family’s needs and the BCBA from Kyo comes to the home of the child at a regularly scheduled time. They can meet the family in the home or community where support is required the most. The motto of Kyo Autism Therapy is “make every moment count,” which is indicative of their core mission of fostering efficient and effective learning that is custom-fitted to each child.

Founded in 2005 by Melissa Willa and Colin Davitian, as Gateway Learning Group, Kyo Autism Therapy is a child-centric ABA therapy provider with the goal of offering effective, convenient, and high quality ABA therapy services to families of children with autism. Melissa is a BCBA and a former special education teacher. She was inspired by her own experience in applying ABA therapy while still a college student when she worked with two little boys from upstate NY. It was such a life-changing experience for her and she realized how truly effective ABA can be in helping children expand their language and social skills. Thus, she pursued more in-depth studies of ABA by completing her Master’s Degree in Behavior Disorders at Teachers College, Columbia University.

They have received highly positive reviews from parents, such as Shelly R. who gave them five stars and said, “We received ABA therapy from Kyo for the last year. The BCBA supervisors, Brianna and Jacquelynn, were great! Both supervisors conducted in-person and video call parent meetings regularly. The Kyo team did a great job helping my son master daily living skills, fine and gross motor skills, and PECS communication. I only discontinued therapy with Kyo to start my son in center therapy to learn social skills. Kyo is a great ABA resource for home therapy.”
