London, UK – In a wet climate such as that of the UK, shoes suffer a lot of wear and tear from scratches to water damage. In order to educate consumers about the care of leather, Colourlock (www.colourlock.com) has just published a new blog post entitled 'Cleaning and care of leather shoes'.
The article discusses how ‘there are different types of leather used in the manufacturing of footwear. It is often hard to differentiate between these types of leather, but there are mainly pigmented leather (coloured), aniline leather (smooth open pore), pull up, suede and nubuck. The best way to distinguish between each type of leather is to rub a small drop of water onto the surface and see what happens next’.
The article states that ‘the most commonly found and also the easiest to clean and maintain are Pigmented coloured shoes. They recommend applying Colourlock Elephant Leather Preserver to this type of shoes and boots to make them water repellent, particularly important for hiking or hunting gear’.
“To clean these pigmented shoes, you can use the LEDER FEIN Leather Shoe Washing Agent which mixed with water can be used to brush off any dirt,” stated a Colourlock spokesperson, “You should clean the whole surface to ensure an even colour at the end. This detergent is also a disinfectant, and it regulates the leather’s pH value and reduces odours.”
The article further discusses how 'Aniline leather shoes are not suitable for wet weather as water would penetrate very easily leaving permanent stains' and that with suede or nubuck leather shoes 'stains and abrasion are hard to remove due to their sensitive nature. This material is also not appropriate for wet weather conditions as stains are easily visible immediately'.
Colourlock UK and Ireland provides trusted professional leather cleaning services for most leather items, especially furniture and automobile fittings. The company uses proprietary cleaning solutions that are gentle to leather but tough on stains.
